RuPaul returning for Drag Race Down Under
Michelle Visage and Rhys Nicholson also back as judges of Stan's fabulous reality quest.

RuPaul, Michelle Visage and Rhys Nicholson have all been confirmed for a second season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under.
Stan today confirmed the returning trio to judge the Season 2 queens from Australia and New Zealand.
RuPaul, said: “I feel so fortunate to have Michelle and Rhys back to share the experience of our beautiful cast of queens. Working with the warm and wonderful Down Under crew is something I look forward to all year long.”
Michelle Visage, said: “I am thrilled to be back at the judging table for RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under Season 2! The talent, heart and passion of these queens continues to surprise and inspire me. I’m beyond excited.”
Rhys Nicholson, said: “I am vibrating with excitement to be back, back, back again for another season of Down Under tomfoolery with my stage mother Ru and daddy Michelle. I’m so proud to be a part of this family and what a bloody privilege it is to see this new batch of girls take it to the runway and show the world what makes Australasian drag so special.”
New cast are yet to be announced.
Stan Original Series RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under is a World of Wonder production in collaboration with Warner Bros. International Production New Zealand for Stan and TVNZ. Randy Barbato, Fenton Bailey, Tom Campbell and RuPaul Charles serve as Executive Producers. Passion Distribution will distribute the series globally in line with Passion Distribution and WOW’s distribution strategy.

There were so many problems with last season, I hope they can improve for this return. Ru and Michelle’s cultural misunderstanding was one large problem – this also happens on the UK version where they try to apply US drag norms to other countires and complain about what the contestants bring as being too ‘local’. Downunder would benefit from Aust/NZ hosts. Also Rhys is good but a second funny judge to alternate with might also help as they do on other country formats.
Do we know if the ‘Drag Race – UK vs the World’ series which starts this week is going to turn up on Stan?

Yassss Queen! Cannot wait for this! The reason they’re filming in NZ again is actually a decision by Ru and Michelle as they both loved spending time there and the anonymity they found while out and about (something they wouldn’t get when in Sydney or Melbourne for instance). Also, some Nancy Drewing shows the cast will be very strong! (If you know where to look, names will appear 😉 ). I’m also hoping it’ll be better than S1, but we know that filming of that was shifted in only 2 weeks due to sudden lockdowns, so this time they have had more time to prepare for the filming. But past RPDR series, the S1 has been weak and S2 has generally been a much stronger season, so fingers and toes!
Shame it is being filmed in New Zealand again. Border rules are going to limit the cast.
At least this year they are auditioning for a cast, Last year they just invited the cast… leading to 3 NZ queens that all worked together being on the show.
Great news, but……..Here’s hoping they improve considerably on the train-wreck first season. Poorly produced, poorly edited and poorly cast. Easily the worst of all the international versions. Have my fingers crossed for better this time around.
Agree there were some problems, but will presume COVID impacted and presumably there have been some learnings. Even this set lacks depth.

Yep – agree. Rhys was far and away the best thing about that dire first season.
